Would you like to find out more about the stories of the place where you live, the community you belong to, the people around you? The Researching Community Heritage team at the University of Sheffield can help. We have expertise in a wide range of subjects, including oral history, archaeology and archival research. We also have experience of working with local groups to develop enjoyable shared projects.
Activities can include visits to historic sites, using collections such as archives, libraries and museums, talking to people who know about heritage, or recording things like people’s memories or local wildlife.
The community provide the ideas, inspiration and leadership for the projects. We share our expertise, offer training in new skills, and provide practical things like access to archives and specialist equipment. Research often takes us on surprising journeys. We hope that the communities we work with will enjoy exploring their heritage and discover new stories from their past.
